Systems Advocacy is focused on working with community, state, and national organizations, networks, and governments to promote full inclusion of people with disabilities. It identifies and addresses concerns with access and equality for the entire disability population, on a community level in areas such as services, businesses, academic, and social settings. We seek to change practices and physical barriers that tend to exclude people with disabilities by requesting policy, environmental, and procedural changes as well as practices. Systems advocates work for positive changes to be made in law and policy on local, state and federal levels. They also work to improve the implementation of existing laws. Action Toward Independence provides consultations, presentations, and sensitivity trainings regarding accommodations in employment, education, civil rights, legal protection and housing at no cost, to promote positive changes.
